In 2008, Aaron Dessner sent Justin Vernon aninstrumental sketch of a song called ‘Big Red Machine’ for‘Dark Was The Night’. This was before they had met inperson. Justin wrote a song to it, interpreting the ‘Big RedMachine’ title as a heart. 10 years of friendship later, thereare 10 more songs. ‘Big Red Machine’. Each song includesa large number of collaborators via the PEOPLE platformand the record was produced by Justin and Aaron withlongtime collaborator Brad Cook and engineered byJonathan Low primarily at Aaron’s studio Long Pond inUpper Hudson Valley, NY.
PEOPLE is a steadily growing group of international artistswho have come together to create and share our workfreely, with each other and everyone. It was born out of awish to establish an independent and nurturing space inwhich to make work (generally around music) that iscollaborative, spontaneous and expressive in nature andwhere all unnecessary distractions or obstacles that get inthe way are removed. PEOPLE is for the benefit anddevelopment of the artists involved and just asimportantly, for those who would like to access and enjoythe output. It is as much about the process of makingwork and showing all that openly as it is about the finaloutcome.
