Boogie from the ‘Burgh! RNT breathes new life into their 45 series with a boom-bap-laden 7” from Pittsburgh’s Buscrates. A pitched down lead vocal, crisp drum programming and slinky synth work demonstrates that Mary Jane (not cocaine) is a helluva drug on the A side’s “Main Thing.”
On the flip, “F.T.F. (Freak The Funk)” explores a familiar sample from the golden era of hip-hop, recontextualized in vocoded synths, funky wah-wah clavinet, and shimmery strings layered perfectly over a pulsating disco groove. RNT 45 is back, and straight into the bag!
